This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies are used by the website
www.theothersideofthewall.org, for what purposes, how long they remain on your device,
and how you can change your choices at any time.
It is provided pursuant to Articles 13 and 14 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), Article 122 of
Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 (Privacy Code), and the Guidelines on cookies and other
tracking tools issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati
personali) on 10 June 2021.

2. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that the websites you visit send to your browser, where they are stored
and then sent back to those same websites on your next visit. Alongside cookies, other technologies
serve a similar function (for example the browser’s local storage): where used, they are
covered by this policy in the same way as cookies.
Cookies may be installed by the website you are visiting (first-party cookies) or by
different domains (third-party cookies).
3. Technical cookies (strictly necessary)
These are essential to the operation of the website and to storing your choices. Under Article 122 of
the Italian Privacy Code they do not require your consent and cannot be disabled through
the preferences panel.

4. Analytics cookies (statistics)
The website uses Google Analytics 4, a statistical analysis service provided by
Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland), to understand in aggregate form
how visitors use the pages.
These cookies are installed only after you have given your consent through the
banner. Until you make a choice, or if you refuse, the Google Analytics script is not loaded and no data
is sent to Google.

Transfer of data outside the European Union. Google may also process the collected
data in the United States. The transfer takes place on the basis of the European Commission’s adequacy
decision of 10 July 2023 concerning the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to which Google LLC
adheres, and of the Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. Profiling and advertising cookies
This website does not use profiling cookies or advertising cookies. There are no
advertising networks, no advertising is displayed, and no user profiles are created for marketing
purposes.
The preferences panel includes a “Marketing” category provided by the consent management tool: at
present no cookie is associated with this category. Should advertising tools be
introduced in the future, this policy will be updated before they are activated and your consent will be
requested anew.
6. No other external resources
The website does not embed social network widgets, external videos, maps, or fonts loaded from
third-party servers. The typefaces used are hosted directly on the website’s own domain and involve no
connection to external servers. As a result, before you give your consent the website makes no request
to any third-party domain.
7. How consent works, and Consent Mode
On your first visit a banner appears, allowing you to:
- Accept all cookies;
- Reject all non-necessary cookies;
- Customise your choice by individual category.
Refusal is offered just as immediately as acceptance, and simply continuing to browse,
scrolling, or closing the banner does not constitute consent. Until you express a choice, only
the technical cookies described in section 3 are installed.
The website also implements Google’s Consent Mode v2: Google services are informed of your
consent status and, in its absence, any form of storage for statistical or advertising purposes remains
disabled.
8. How to change or withdraw your choices
You may change or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, by
clicking the cookie management icon that is always present on the website’s pages: the preferences panel
will reopen. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the
withdrawal.

9. Legal basis and retention
The legal basis for processing is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) for analytics
cookies, and the legitimate interest of the Controller in delivering the requested
service (Article 6(1)(f)) for technical cookies alone, which are exempt from consent under Article 122 of
the Italian Privacy Code.
Data is retained for the periods indicated in the tables above. Proof of consent is retained for
1 year, after which the banner will be shown to you again.
10. Your rights
As a data subject, you have the right to request from the Controller access to the personal data
concerning you, their rectification or erasure, the restriction of processing, as well as to object to
processing and to exercise the right to data portability (Articles 15-22 GDPR). You also have the right
to withdraw your consent at any time.
